Helping
the Community Keep Its Cool
Rohm and Haas initiated the Cool Block project in a
center-city neighborhood in Philadelphia. This project helped many of the
local residents by applying a white, acrylic-based reflective coating designed
to reduce the amount of heat absorbed by asphalt roofs during the summer
months.

The CN Tower Skypod - A Critical and Prestigious Re-Roof Project
The roof of Toronto's Skypod is situated about two-thirds the way up the CN Tower, the tallest freestanding structure in the world. Among other things, the 12,000 sq. ft. roof space holds the largest revolving restaurant in the world. This article covers the esteemed re-roof project of the Skypod and the sound technical application of a fluid-applied membrane based on RHOPLEX® ELASTOMERIC acrylic technology from Rohm and Haas Company.
Putting Off Today What Saves Money Tomorrow
Advancements in roofing
materials and technology have increased a
roof's intrinsic value. Today, there are
roofing systems available that offer maintenance
options to extend a roof's
usable life. Building owners and facility
managers are learning that deferred maintenance
can be a shrewd maintenance strategy that
keeps facilities in top condition, cutting
costs in the process. This case reviews factors
to consider in preparing a successful program
of deferred maintenance.
Sustainable Roofs Rate High Marks at Cost-Conscious School District
This is a case of a CA-based school district financially challenged by repair and maintenance problems, of more than 450,000 sq. ft. of roof. The district chose a sustainable system approach - Sprayed Polyurethane Foam (SPF,) coated with Elastomeric roof coating, which helped to save money and improve the overall quality of the physical plant. It may also serve as a blueprint for comparable operations that find themselves in similar straits.
A Yankee Eye for Practicality Sees Answer in Foam Roof
HMF Realty, headquartered
in Bridgeport, CT, needed a replacement for
its 73,000 sq. ft. Built-Up-Roof (BUR). After
considering its options, HMF elected a Sprayed
Polyurethane Foam (SPF) application, coated
with Elastomeric roof coating. This case
reviews the methodologies and HMF’s
anticipated short and long-term gains based
on the cost efficiencies achieved from using
an SPF system.
Major Overhaul Yields New Roof and New Insight
The original building design of a 56,000 sq. ft. roof of a Reno-based life
care facility created its share of roofing challenges and the need for a complete
roof overhaul. This example explains how a foam roof application, coated with
Elastomeric roof coating, addressed these challenges which include drainage,
resistance to mechanical damage, proper roof slope and overall heating and
cooling efficiencies.
